COPAGA was founded in the 40s by a small group of egg producers who created a co-operative called “Cooperativa Provincial Avícola y Ganadera”. In the 60s, Copaga moved to the current premises, in the El Segre industrial estate of Lleida, where the first animal feed mill, the poultry slaughterhouse and the egg grading station were built, along with the central office and, later on, in 1980 approximately, the pig slaughterhouse.

As a result of the strong crisis in the pig and chicken sectors in 1998 and 99, COPAGA has moved the activities of chicken and pig slaughter and egg classification with specific and firm agreements to leading companies in this trade, concentrating its activity in the partner service.

At present, COPAGA services more than 400 active partners supplying them with high-quality animal feed, selling produced animals for them, producing selection sows, supplying stock and health material and giving them accounting and financial advice in its Accounting Centre for Partners.

Copaga is organized into different sections in order to provide the above mentioned services, employing 150 direct and 35 indirect people in all. Such sections are: animal feed mill in Lleida and Almacelles; Montagut Experimental Centre; genetics farms in Solsona; cutting room and pig slaughterhouse in Lleida; warehouse of animal health products for livestock in Lleida; warehouse for livestock material and farm facilities; transports section and vehicle and factory maintenance workshops; chemical and pathology laboratories in Lleida.

Since 2002, COPAGA boasts the ISO 9001-2000 standard for the whole process of producing and selling animal feed, as well as the CALITAX standard of animal feed traceability.
